Middletown Recycling Center
The Middletown Recycling Center is available for Middletown residents and businesses only and accepts recyclable materials and bulk waste.
Location: 185 Johnson Street, Middletown. (At the corner of Johnson St. and North Main St.)
What is accepted: recyclable materials and bulk waste that is generated in Middletown. Regular household trash is NOT accepted at the Middletown Recycling Center; residents and businesses must have household trash collected at their properties. Regular hours:
All year: Mon. – Fri.; 7am-2:45pm
Dec.-Mar., July & Aug.: 1st & 3rd Saturday; 7am-11:45am
Apr.-June, Sept.-Nov.: Every Saturday; 7am-11:45am
How to access the Recycling Center: Residents/businesses must obtain a vehicle window tag to be allowed entry to the Recycling Center. Vehicle tags can be obtained at the Department of Public Works in City Hall (Room 210), Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., or by filling out this online form.

You may also download and print the above form and bring it or mail it to: Middletown Public Works, 245 Dekoven Drive, Room 210, Middletown CT 06457. Be sure to include a copy of your vehicle registration or other proof of residency such as your driver's license.
Accepted Materials:
- Recyclables such as cardboard, plastic food containers, batteries, food scraps, household electronics, mattresses & box springs, yard waste, mixed paper, glass bottles, and much more. Click here for a full list.
- Bulk waste (not household waste) such as broken furniture, wood, demolition and construction debris, landscaping debris over 6'' in diameter, scrap metal, freon containing items, tires, and more. Click here for a full list.
- Items for the Swap Shack. Residents are welcome to visit the Swap Shack to donate or take useable household items for free. Swap shack hours are: 1st and 3rd Saturdays (9:30-11:30am) and following Wednesdays (12:00-2:00pm) of each month. The Swap Shack is maintained by volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the Public Works Department.
Non-Accepted Materials: The Middletown Recycling Center does not accept materials such as asphalt, concrete or clean fill. This material is accepted at: Butler Construction, Portland CT, 860-342-3880.
Starting April 1, 2023, the Middletown Recycling Center will only accept two tons of materials per load from Middletown properties. Loads larger than two tons can be brought to a private facility such as:

Starting July 1st 2023, any business that transports any type of waste material must register with the City and if they want to use the Recycling Center, they must obtain a license to use the Recycling Center. Full details for waste transporters is available here.
