Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems

ssds

A properly functioning septic system will effectively treat sewage to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination. This is accomplished in several ways: 1) The septic tank separates the solids from the liquids 2) wastewater enters the drain field/leaching system 3) wastewater is evenly disbursed and percolates through the soil.  Natural aerobic bacteria in the soil and leaching system effectively remove harmful bacteria, nitrogen, phosphorus, and other contaminants.
