POET LAUREATE'S CORNER

Fairy Circle
A treat for winter-weary eyes
my fairy circle will arise.

crocuses chase white snowdrops,
circling purple creeping phlox

followed by a labyrinth
of delicate grape hyacinth,

then tête-à-tête with daffodils,
in whirling lemon-colored frills

All this, abandoned long ago...
I left it under winter’s snow

Now, beneath indifferent stars,
will bloom in someone else’s yard
