Board Game Lab @ the Middletown Rec Center!

Come to the Rec center (140 Wilderman's Way, Middletown, CT) for a fun afternoon of games! Bring your own board, card, or tabletop game to play and teach to friends, pick out a board game to play from the library's collection, OR work with us to invent your own game! Snacks provided. The activities we have planned are aimed at ages 10 - 14 years old This program is made possible though the generosity of the City of Middletown Youth Services Bureau, Middletown Recreation, and the Friends of the Russell Library! Not Funny: Author Talk with Academy Award Nominated Jena Friedman (Online)

Growing up, Jena Friedman didn’t care about being likable. And she never wanted to be a comedian, either. A child of the 90s, she wouldn’t discover her knack for the funny business until research for her college thesis led her to take an improv class in Chicago. That anthropology paper, written on race, class, and gender in the city’s comedy scene, was, in Jena’s own words, “just as funny as it sounds.” But it did lay the groundwork for a career that has seen her write and produce for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the Late Show with David Letterman, and the Oscar nominated Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
