Please join the 30th anniversary celebration of creating letterpress printed artists’ books and more, at the Middletown, CT studio of Robin Price, Printer & Publisher. The Open Studio/Sale offers an opportunity to participate in activities, and to explore finished work available for purchase. These works have been made on the premises, and include letterpress prints, cyanotypes (sun prints), collages, and handmade books, including blank books. (Alas, this most recent work is not yet up on the website.) 

This is Robin’s first open studio since 1995, when she relocated the press from Los Angeles, and she is looking forward to this opportunity to share her work with Middletown neighbors and people throughout Connecticut and the region. Plans are underway to develop more interaction and community opportunities at the studio starting next year.

Robin Price has been creating artists’ books since 1984. “A chameleon among book artists,” she has a long history of collaborating with others, with extensive diversity in content and form. Her limited-edition press books, prints, and unique work are collected and exhibited internationally. Robin established her press in the Los Angeles area in 1984, under the imprint Lavender Armadillo Press, later revised to Robin Price, Printer & Publisher. Since 1995, the press has been located in an historic textile mill in Middletown, Connecticut, producing work with a team of assistants, apprentices, and interns over the years. 

Robin’s work is in permanent collections at Library of Congress, Harvard University, Yale University, Getty Center Research Institute, German National Library (Leipzig), and Dutch Museum of the Book (Den Haag, The Netherlands), among many others. 

The exhibition “Counting on Chance: 25 Years of Artists’ Books by Robin Price, Publisher” opened at Davison Art Center, Wesleyan University in 2010, and traveled to Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Art.

This event is co-hosted with members of the Hartford Press Coop, who inspired community “making parties” at the studio in preparation for the sale!
