Emerging from Erasure

Artist Talk, Friday October 24th, 4:30: Gary O’Neil, a contemporary Wangunk ceramicist, will be in conversation with J. Kēhaulani Kauanui, curator of O’Neil’s exhibit Excavations, currently on view in the Zilkha South Gallery Reading Room.  This talk will be held in Ring Family Performing Arts Hall and will be followed by a reception.

Symposium, Saturday, October 25: Emerging from Erasure: Indigenous and Settler Colonial Histories of the Wangunk People. This all-day event (the first of its kind) is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Wangunk story in Middletown and beyond. Scholars from the newly-formed Wangunk Studies Working Group will present their work on the tribe, in panels held from 8:30am to 5:30pm (it is fine to attend in part; you do not need to commit to the entire day).  Here is a link to the schedule and RSVP. The symposium is hosted by Wesleyan’s Center for the Humanities.
