The City of Middletown Commission on the Arts (MCA) presents an Arts Advocacy Award annually to an individual or organization which significantly contributes to the enrichment of the arts in Middletown. On Thursday, September 28th the MCA would like to acknowledge Anne-Marie Cannata McEwen and Middlesex Music Academy as the 2023 recipients of the Arts Advocacy Award for the City of Middletown. Anne-Marie Cannata McEwen served for 15 years as Executive Director of The Buttonwood Tree, facilitating performance programs of world-class musicians in its intimate venue, and bringing together artists, performers, creators, and thinkers. Anne-Marie created countless opportunities for local residents, emerging artists and young people, and encouraged them to develop their artistic skills, collaborate with others and perform in public, many for the first time, while radiating an atmosphere of positivity, gratitude and acceptance palpable upon entering The Buttonwood Tree.Middlesex Music Academy was founded in 2012 by Matt Lefebvre at the site of the iconic Matt’s Music and Joe Riff’s, changing its name to reflect its commitment to teaching music. Middlesex Music Academy focuses on lessons and learning, specializing in private music lessons offered by professionally-trained teachers, all of whom are career musicians and have musical degrees, and proudly supports local schools with school band instruments, supplies, and instrument maintenance and repair.Middlesex Music Academy works with Every Note Counts to provide music education to students in need. Its other collaborations include partnerships to present Make Music Day and Middletown Arts Fest. The Academy also provides technical and equipment support to The Buttonwood Tree.They will be honored for their accomplishments with an official proclamation at an awards ceremony at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 440 Main St. Please come and help us extend our gratitude to these notable Arts Advocates for their continued contributions to the City of Middletown.
