The Shoreline Jazz Quintet will be appearing at the Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center, 605 Main Street in Middletown on Saturday, September 16th, 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. For this gig, they will play the music of Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Chick Corea and others.The Shoreline Jazz Quintet, or SJQ, includes saxophone, drums, bass, guitar and vibraphone. Their repertoire includes Jazz standards, some popular tunes and arrangements of compositions by Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans and Pat Metheny amongst others.Adam Anderson plays both acoustic and electric bass, appearing in Jazz and Blues groups throughout Connecticut. He now leads his own Quartet based in Mystic. In addition to playing bass, Adam is a luthier trained in the craft of building and repairing string basses. Mike Bimonte has played drums for 55 years, citing 50’s Jazz and 70’s progressive rock as influences. He has worked with theatrical groups doing orchestra pit work, participating in more than 200 productions. Much of his time recently has been devoted to playing with the SJQ. Deepak Cyril D’Souza, the band’s leader and a physician scientist at Yale, learned the alto and soprano saxophone in mid-life. Rich Meyers plays vibraphone, graduating from New England Conservatory with a degree in Jazz studies. Originally a drummer, he became interested in the vibes when his instructor at NEC, Fred Buda, introduced him to mallet percussion. Steve Wood began playing jazz guitar while attending college in Washington DC. He is a Senior Scientist for Agriculture and Food Systems at the Nature Conservancy. In addition to Jazz, Steve has studied and played West African music.
