JAY HOGGARD SHORT BIO

Vibraphonist-composer Jay Hoggard's music is positive, spiritual, uplifting, and happy. He draws on traditional and contemporary musical vocabulary to develop new directions for the vibraphone and marimba. Jay seamlessly blends gospel roots with African/Caribbean rhythms and the three B’s of the jazz tradition (Blues, Bop, Ballads). Original innovations in songs and extended compositions frame his virtuoso mallet improvisations.

Jay Hoggard has recorded 23 CDs as a leader, including HARLEM HIEROGLYPHS,CHRISTMAS VIBES ALL THROUGH THE YEAR, SOLO FROM TWO SIDES, SOULAR POWER, SWING EM GATES, THE RIGHT PLACE, and SONGS OF SPIRITUAL LOVE.

His work has been featured internationally on radio, television, and film. Jay has performed in many of the world's finest music venues with jazz greats Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Tito Puente, Kenny Burrell, Dr. Billy Taylor, Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Rivers, Max Roach, Bobby Hutcherson, Anthony Braxton,Muhal Richard Abrams, Hilton Ruiz, Chico Freeman, James Newton, Dwight Andrews, Anthony Davis, Ahmed Abdullah, and many others.

Jay Hoggard is a tenured professor of music at Wesleyan University, where he directs the Jazz Orchestra and has taught and mentored thousands of students over the past 30 years.

The City of Middletown Arts & Culture Office/MCA presents its annual Summer Sounds Community Concert Series, scheduled for Thursday nights on the Municipal Lawn located at 245 deKoven Drive. Concerts will be from 6 PM to 8 PM and are FREE.

Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome for these relaxing community events that are fun for all ages. The Municipal Lawn is centrally located to parking, restaurants, retail shops, and more. Come visit downtown Middletown on Thursday evenings to start your summer weekends in Connecticut.
