Come learn from and witness modern day Kobzar Jurij Fedynskj on his journey abroad to play the national instruments of Ukraine in Middletown, CT. Help support the Ukrainian community at this crucial moment in history. This event is FREE.
Kobzars were/are Ukrainian bards who sang epic songs called dumy (reflections), often laced with political commentary and about the quest for peace and freedom. The tradition was nearly exterminated by Stalin in 1935, when Stalin assembled them under the pretense of an ethnographic conference where supposedly their songs and stories would be collected and recorded, only to be executed. Jurij Fedynskyj - modern day kobzar- is touring the US during a brief break from his work in Ukraine, where he has spent the last months playing in bomb shelters, for patients wounded in the war, and in the worst hit cities. It is particularly potent that the world now hears the song of the Kobzar.
