Dear Recyclers,

I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I am so grateful for all the support from local residents and businesses who participate in our programs, support our efforts and inspire us to keep moving forward with all of our waste reduction, recycling and sustainability projects. Thank you so much for your ideas, your time and your personal efforts to make this world a better place. It makes a difference and makes Middletown an even better place to live and work.

Just a reminder that city offices, the Recycling Center and the Sanitation District will all be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25. The Recycling Center and The Sanitation District will be operating on Friday, Nov. 26. Full details on holiday operating hours are available here: https://www.middletownct.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=344.

Upcoming Waste Reduction Events:
I will be partnering with Cinder+Salt on Small Business Saturday (Nov. 27) to host a Re Gift Swap Table outside the store (in the alley) at 195 Main Street from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. If you have a new item you won't use, please bring it down to share with someone else. You might find something else from our table for someone on your gift list! Cinder+Salt has lots of activities going, including highlighting local artists, live music, hot cocoa and sweet treats, as well as a coat & toy drive run by the Wesleyan Veteran's Organization (they are looking for new or used coats and new toys).

Coming up in December, Reboot Eco and I are working together to organize a Holiday Toy Swap at the Reboot Eco store on 131 River Road. The Swap will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Gently used toys can be dropped off at the Reboot Eco store during the store's normal working hours (Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 10am - 4pm) or brought in early the day of the event. No large items please. You don't need to swap to shop or vice versa! More information on both of these waste reduction programs is available here: https://www.middletownct.gov/195/Recycling-Events-and-Programs.

As many people know, we collect corks (real corks, no synthetic corks please!) for recycling at City Hall. I am thrilled to announce that the Middletown Recreation Division has organized a cork craft workshop using corks to make some really cool projects. Registration for this January 28 workshop is here: https://myrec.middletownct.gov/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29974/.

I hope everyone has a happy, low waste, Thanksgiving!

Best,
Kim O'Rourke
Middletown Recycling Coordinator
