Dear Friends,
Our January Speaker Series, Diversity in Song, was a rousing success! For three evenings, an average of 70 participants joined on Zoom to listen to and become more informed about music of various styles and cultures from around the world. Shared passion and insights from three inspiring guest speakers brought warmth to cold nights, and we look forward to presenting more virtual experiences like this in the future! Here is what a few attendees had to say:
"Thank you for organizing a series demonstrating that music crosses all borders. It is the universal language spoken throughout the world!"
"I appreciated hearing the various perspectives and experiences of the speakers and how they engage with their choirs and communities. From gospel music to music that promotes peaceful activism while representing communities such as the LGBTQ community to multi-cultural music … there IS such diversity in song!"
"Kudos to the Chorale for organizing a memorable series that opened my eyes and ears to the sounds of music in different and unexpected ways. Thank you! What a gift!"
Never ones to rest, we are beginning our winter and spring semester on Tuesday, February 9 at 7pm. We will once again be on Zoom, but this time we are going to try something a little different. For the first five weeks, we will be exploring F. J. Haydn’s The Creation, a choral masterpiece of the Classical Era and a crowning achievement of the composer. This score study during rehearsals will allow singers an intimate look into the oratorio as a whole and in its historical context. As we continue to meet virtually, we have an opportunity to explore, listen, and sing parts of the oratorio in ways that time does not allow when we are in a live rehearsal setting.
Are you or your friends looking for a welcoming family in these isolating times? Would you like to make great music? Come and join us, as we are looking for new singers! Interested singers are welcome to attend open rehearsals on Tuesdays February 9 and 16. Joseph D’Eugenio, Artistic Director, will meet with singers at 6:00pm, before rehearsal, to welcome newcomers and answer any questions. Rehearsals are from 7 - 8:30pm on Zoom, and will meet most Tuesdays until May 4.
If you or any of your friends are interested in joining, please contact our New Member Coordinator, Margie Livengood at margie.livengood@gmchorale.org.
From all of us at GMChorale to you, please stay healthy and stay warm, and thank you for your continued support. We look forward to performing again soon!
