Dear Middletown Recyclers,
I hope everyone is well as we head into the fall. Here's some Recycling & Public Works updates:
Public Works is continuing to pick up brush from storm Isaias. If they haven't gotten to your street, they are still working on it. I'm happy to say the Recycling Center has started its Fall hours. It will be open every Saturday now through the end of November, 7am - 12 noon. Residents can bring brush in at no charge.
Public Works is also picking up bulk waste curbside (it was suspended for a bit after Isaias). Please note that curbside bulk pick ups will be suspended again starting Oct. 19 so the trucks can be retrofitted with the leaf collection equipment. October 19 is the last day to make the payment. You can pay by mail or come into City Hall to make the payment. If you are coming to City Hall, it is best to make an appointment by calling 860-638-4850.
The City and RiverCOG decided to move forward with a fall community compost bin and rain barrel sale, so that is happening now. The distribution day is Sunday, Oct. 18. More information and the online ordering can be found here: https://rivercogcompostersale.ecwid.com/.
The Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 am - 1 pm at Middlesex Community College. More information can be found www.rivercog.org. We are looking for volunteers for the collection day. If you are interested, please let me know.
The Middletown Recreation Department is running a Recycled Art Competition for children in preschool - 12th grade. Full details are available in the Recreation Department's current brochure which can be found here https://www.middletownct.gov/DocumentCenter/View/15122/Current-Recreation-Brochure-. Entries are due to the Recreation Department by Wednesday, November 25, 4:00 p.m.
We now have 8 episodes of Recycling: It's a Walk in the Park! If you missed any of them, they can be found here: https://www.middletownct.gov/1139/Recycling-Presentations.
If you have any questions about recycling, please contact me at kim.orourke@middletownct.gov or 860-638-4855.
Stay well,
