I hope everyone is staying safe and well. Here's an update on what's happening in the Middletown recycling realm.

Statewide Waste Reduction Initiative
The State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is forming a group of municipalities to address pressing trash disposal issues across the state. I am hoping this will turn into action and improve and increase waste reduction programs statewide. The first meeting is to be held September 8th. Labor Day Recycling Center Hours
The Recycling Center will be closed this last Saturday in August, but starting in September it will be open every Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 12 noon, through November. It will be open Saturday, September 5th. It will be closed for Labor Day, on Monday, September 7th.

Holiday Hours for Sanitation District
The Sanitation District will be working regular hours on Labor Day, Monday September 7th, so please put your carts out as normal.

Brush Pick up
City Public Works crews are continuing to collect storm brush throughout the City. Because of the high volume of brush, they are going street by street. Bulk waste collections are currently suspended because of the brush operation.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Our last Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day this year will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 at Middlesex Community College from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Last year there was no wait at this event. We are asking everyone to wear masks, put their items in their trunks and stay in their vehicles.
