Middletown 2023 Leaf Collection Guidelines

In effort to reduce drainage issues, congestion, noise, dust and harmful emissions associated with the leaf vacuum program, Middletown Public Works is excited to announce service improvements to this year’s leaf collection program.  As in previous years, Curbside Vacuum Collection will begin November 13, with crews making two rounds through the City, finishing on December 8.

Leaves must be at the curb for final pick up by November 29.

Sanitation District residents that wish to have their leaves picked up earlier may do so by placing leaves in brown paper leaf bags (NO plastic bags) along the back side of the curb starting October 9.    Bags must be free of branches, grass and yard waste.  All other residents that wish to dispose of leaves earlier than November 13 may bring them directly to the Middletown Recycling Center during their normal operating hours.

Leaves will not be picked up prior to November 13, except for bagged leaves in the Sanitation District.  Leaves may not be blown into the street. All leaf piles must be placed behind the curb or edge of road.  The use of brown paper bags is encouraged for safety reasons.

Leaves will not be picked up if they are in plastic bags.

Brush and bulky waste pickups will be suspended effective October 20, 2023. Payments for bulk waste must be made by that date.

Residents are encouraged to use natural leaf disposal methods as well.  Mulching or composting leaves on your property is the most environmentally-friendly option of leaf disposal. Please consider these options if you have the space.

The City is holding a Community Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale until October 22.  More information is available at https://connecticut.compostersale.com/rivercog/

A virtual Backyard Composting Workshop is scheduled for October 18 at 6:00 p.m.  Details and registration is available on the Russell Library website: https://russelllibrary.libcal.com/event/11090867.
