The Middletown Police Department recognized that 4 out of 5 child car seats are installed incorrectly and because of this, many accidents that should have resulted in little to no injuries resulted in significant injuries to young children.
The Middletown Police Department made a commitment to reducing preventable injuries to children by developing the Middletown Police Department Child Car Safety Inspection Unit. The officers in this unit educate the public in how to properly install and use child car seats.
Certified Car Seat Technicians
Middletown Police Department has three police officers that are certified Child Car Seat Technicians trained to properly inspect and install child car seats. The officers undergo a yearly training to maintain their certification.

The Middletown Police Department Child Car Seat Safety Inspection Unit conducts monthly installation/inspection clinics by appointment. The unit conducts approximately 275 child car seat inspections annually.
